Reducing environmental impact in Logistika Pluss

The logistics sector is considered to be one of the largest sectors affecting the environment. At Logistika Pluss, we know that we must take the environment into account in our operations on a daily basis. We have the environmental management system certificate ISO 14001: 2015. For us, this means that reducing the negative impact on the environment is part of our company’s overall strategy.

In order to reduce the negative effects, we are committed to making processes more efficient, developing technologies and finding environmentally friendly solutions:

  • We sort the waste generated from our activities and return it for recycling. We recycled 75.5% of sorted waste in 2020 (74.3% in 2019);
  • To prevent heat and cold losses, we have separated the high storage and loading areas with partitions. Both are individually heated and temperature adjustable;
  • 95% of the lighting works with motion sensors. The shelf gaps are divided into three zones. Both fluorescent lamps and LED lamps are used as luminaires. In addition, we have transparent sunroofs in stock to make the most of daylight and thus, use fewer resources to generate electricity.

One of the ways we save energy is using renewable energy. Our Välja Road logistics center and Punane Street logistics center are both covered with solar panels. We decided to install solar panels because they are environmentally friendly, the electricity produced is 100% clean and as a bonus, it helps to save on electricity costs.

In April 2014, we launched the solar panel park of Välja Road logistics center with a capacity of 82 kW. The energy produced accounts for about 10% of the logistics centre’s annual needs. Depending on the season (height and angle of the sun), maximum productivity is reached between 11.00 and 14.00, which at that time covers 99% of the energy needs of the logistics center.

By consuming the produced renewable energy, we prevent the release of about 80 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. In total, we have produced 471832 kWh of renewable energy in the Välja Road building for seven years, the value of which we estimate is approximately 43,000 euros.

2020 was a record year, 77467 kWh of energy was produced in a year. The value of the energy produced was around 7,000 euros, by our estimation. Can it be said that it was a sunny year?

Environmentally friendly and sustainable thinking is undeniably an indispensable precondition for long-term business.

Let’s think green!
